Goal: Tackle finances
Quote: “If you wanna fly, you got to give up the shit that weighs you down.” – Toni Morrison
I started my day of hope a little early on the evening of the 12th with a manicure and pedicure at the spa to prepare me for the 13th so I would be relaxed and calm.
On my day of hope, I try to tackle items that bring me unnecessary stress at least once per year. I don’t like it while I am doing it, but it helps me to clear a path and make the road on my highway easier to travel.
I have a friend who does personal money management and I decided to swallow my pride, be vulnerable, and ask her for help. This was so hard to be completely open with someone regarding your current money situation. Especially when you don’t see a path forward. She not only tackles the actual finances, but also helps the clients understand why they make the decisions they make around money, and their lack of it, or makes sense of what to do with it, if they have it. She helped me see why I seem to always be in debt, and the negative beliefs I don’t even know I hold about money.
A couple of the beliefs I was struggling with were:
I am a single mom.
I will never have money.
Everyone who has money is stuck up or arrogant.
If I have money, I will become that way too.
Working with her was very eye opening to me. I was seeing money as a bad thing. I realized, after working with her, that making and saving more money would not make me heartless. It would allow me more opportunities to give, and to do good for more people, with my heart. There are also many people in the world who have money and are not arrogant like Oprah, for example.
My friend owns her own company called Changekeepers. She is one of my biggest inspirations. We had several meetings that year, and the investment was completely worth it. Getting out of debt is a big goal of mine, and not spending more than I earn is a tough but rewarding lesson. Hiring a coach was a smart decision.
My lesson of hope: Making time for things in your life that cause you stress is a great way to open more room for joy inside of you. Invest in your future.
