Goal: Kick my own butt and discover Costco on a weekday
Quote: “Transformation isn’t a future event, it’s a present-day activity.” – Jillian Michaels
Today I took the day off work. I got to sleep in and just take in the day and go at my own pace. I got up when I wanted to. No alarm, no schedule. I believe it was around 10 am. I did my Jillian Michaels workout DVD. If you don’t know who Jillian Michaels is, then you are missing out. Not because it’s an easy workout by any means, but because it delivers results fast. She is tough, and I love her no excuses attitude, but she is also very encouraging and supportive as well. I am just trying to take some action on exercise each day.
I then took a nice long shower. No hurrying to get somewhere or catering to others. I made myself some sausage and eggs and just enjoyed my breakfast in peace and quiet with no rushing. Just me, myself, and I. My job as an executive assistant is so busy and noisy all the time, so taking a day off during the week, to be in silence, is refreshing.
I decided to take on a real challenge for the afternoon. I decided I was going to go to Costco, on a weekday. Ohh, Ahh. I usually have to go there after work or on the weekends. If you have gone to Costco on a weekend, you know that wonderful feeling of being completely annoyed and stressed out by other shoppers, well at least that is how I feel. It might be my non love of shopping but in my opinion road rage is nothing compared to Costco on a weekend. People just don’t care if they cut you off or stand in the middle of the aisle to decide whether to buy items they probably don’t even need. I like to get in and out and it’s tough on the weekend. I finally got to go on a weekday. Oh my, what a difference it makes when everyone is at work. Costco on a weekday, awesome.
Then because that went so well, I pushed my luck and went to the grocery store after. That was also nice during the day. It’s like a different world on a weekday compared to the weekends or at night after. It was calm and stress free. I am now stocked and ready to do my healthy food prep for the upcoming week and I don’t have to brave the stores on the weekend. It was worth the day off just for that. I might have to make it a routine. I am sure part of it was I was in the right frame of mind when I went. I was calm and not in a rush myself.
I then went to my favorite park, Ann Morrison, in Boise to enjoy the Greenbelt. It’s a paved two-way path that runs all along the Boise River. Nestled in trees and by flowing water. I love it. I like to go there to walk and get some journaling done. I sat at a picnic table in the park and just journaled for hours. My favorite fountain is at this park, and it just relaxes me. It’s amazing what can happen when you find that favorite spot you can go to, which will help you de-stress, and enjoy peace.
I then cooked a healthy dinner with my wonderful groceries and went to bed nice and relaxed.
My lesson of hope: Working out, taking care of yourself, and slowing down, feels good. Also, for me, Costco can be a great place to shop if you go during weekday hours.
