Goal: Finish an actual commitment to myself
Quote: “Commitment is an act, not a word.” – Jean-Paul Sartre
Today I am on the last day of my 13-day Yoga challenge. I was trying to come up with an exercise challenge and figure out how many days to do the challenge and something hit me, do it for 13 days. I started on the first of July, and I challenged myself to do 13 straight days of Yoga. I found videos on Netflix, and I found some DVDs online that I ordered from Amazon as well. It was not easy, but I did it. Some days it was a 30-minute DVD and some days it was a 13-minute video. There was not a time limit, I just had to do some kind of Yoga each day. The hardest part was making myself get up in the mornings and doing it, even on the weekends. I did it even when I didn’t feel like it.
I love the 13-day challenges because I feel like it is enough time to see if you really like something and if you can really keep it up and stay on track. Yoga is one of my favorite exercises as it strengthens your body. It stretches your insides and your outsides. It also came in handy for training and running races. I have come up with lots of great 13-day challenges since then.
After my 13th day of Yoga, I went to On the Border Mexican restaurant for lunch and did some journaling to get caught up on all my events that year, and just life in general. Then I went to Edwards Movie Theater to see the movie, Pretty Woman on the big screen. Just me, myself, and I.
I had seen this movie when it first came out in 1990 and they had an anniversary showing of the movie at the theater. They show older popular movies on the big screen once a month and this classic movie just happened to be showing on the 13th. Since it was one of my favorite movies, I went.
It’s an American romantic comedy, about a high-powered corporate executive that has lost touch with life and is only consuming himself with business not really living. Enter a Hollywood hooker, who is a free-spirited young lady, with a brain and other ambitions, but must put food on the table and save for college. They end up teaching each other more life lessons than anticipated and falling for each other. He rescues her, but she rescues him right back. It sounded to me like a great way to spend a day of hope on a Sunday. I got my popcorn, soda, and enjoyed every minute of Richard Gere and Julia Roberts' Cinderella love story.
My lesson of hope: Just sticking with one day at a time, one step at a time will get me to my goals and popcorn always tastes so much better at the movies.
