Goal: A hundred feet is not as far as you think
Quote: “Never be afraid of trying something new. Very important. It is the spice of life.” – Richard C. Morais
I slept in today. I know I do this a lot but to just sleep in and not have an agenda in the mornings is amazing, especially in the middle of the work week. I am normally up before dawn and not home until after dark for my job.
My son and I went to breakfast at The Dutch Oven Cafe. It was a great breakfast place within walking distance from my house at the time. It’s closed now, but they had the best homemade breakfast. They only had one menu item for breakfast and one for lunch, but when you do that one amazing thing, you don’t need to do anything else.
Then we went to see a movie. We saw a movie called The Hundred-Foot Journey. It’s adapted from Richard C. Morais’ novel. The actress Helen Mirren plays the main lead as Madame Mallory. It’s about a battle in a French Village between two restaurants directly across from each other. Exactly a hundred feet across the street. A Muslim family runs a restaurant in Mumbai. Hassan, the main cook, learns from his mother. When a mob attacks and burns down their restaurant and his mother is gone, they are forced to go to France. Their brakes fail on their van and a local woman Marguerite gives them shelter and they are amazed at how great the food tastes that she has grown. They end up buying an abandoned property across from an upscale French restaurant with two Michelin Stars. One thing leads to another, and they are both fighting for the prestigious Michelin Stars.
Michelin stars are the most prestigious award a restaurant can get. One is very good in its category, two is rare and Excellent cooking worth a detour, and three is Exceptional cuisine worth a special journey. Will they get three stars? You will have to watch it to find out. Great movie, so many good lessons. It’s got everything; humor, love stories, anger, and compassion, all in one.
Then I went off to the Boise Greenbelt to journal to get me centered. I also got in some walking and running to prepare for some future half marathon races I signed up for.
My lesson of hope: Taking time to do things you love will always be rewarding. If you love it, do it. Spending time with family is priceless.
