Goal: Accept the not so good news, and enjoy every moment of the added good news

This month turned into several days of hope with good and not so good news.
Not so good news: My dad is not doing well with his health, so I drove to Utah to help my sister and do appointments with the VA hospital. They are trying to find out what is wrong, again. The hospital has been doing lots of testing on different things to try to find out why he is suffering. They know he has cirrhosis of the liver but it seems like something else is wrong. Not good. We are having a family meeting with the doctors to see what our next steps are and how to care for him. He went downhill fast after that. The good news is, he is ok today and working through the symptoms.
Bonus Good News: Because I was in town on this day of hope, I got involved in the process with my wonderful nieces and getting ready for their junior prom. My nieces are the best. They bring me joy just being around them and hearing about their lives. We always laugh a lot and just really enjoy everyone’s company. I got to do all the fun things that it takes to get ready for a dance. I got to help them get their makeup on, get their hair done fancy and beautiful, and get dressed up in their wonderful prom gowns. Taking pictures was such a great time as well. I am so proud of these girls. Even at a young age they have overcome so much in their lives, and they are still smiling and having fun. They are crazy sometimes, but that is what makes them so special. I love that they are not what others would call normal, they are over the top, outstanding humans. I support them no matter what and I always try to be there for big events or when they just need their aunt for guidance.
I was not expecting to do this for my day, but I am thankful I got to be there on all accounts for support. My dad even felt better and got to see those amazing girls in their beautiful dresses. A very touching moment for sure.
My lesson of hope: Sometimes there will be detours, just try to enjoy all the moments along the way. Good and not so good. It’s part of life. If you think about it in the end, it’s all-good stuff. We need to remember there is always someone else out there who would love to be in your shoes.
