Goal: Find a Starlight Mountain

Quote: “When the moon is not full, the stars shine more brightly.” - Unknown

Today I had to work half day, but I did get to sleep in and go into the office later. It is a busy time at work these days. Working for a startup company is a lot different than a large corporate office, and I am working from home which is odd.

I managed to get off work early and met one of my old bosses from a previous company for lunch. My health insurance and severance from my last company runs out in August, so I need to network when I can. This current job is a temporary job, and I am only a contractor. Same crazy busy Executive Assistant job, just on a smaller scale. After lunch I went home to pack my suitcase as was going to Seattle the following day for work.

Despite the craziness of the day and upcoming trip I managed to get myself together and pick up my good friend Idgie at her house at 4p.m. I had Googled a few weeks earlier what to do on Monday June 13th in Boise and the surrounding areas. I discovered an amazing outdoor theater tucked away in the mountains, about fifty minutes from my house where they do live theater plays when the sun goes down. It’s called Starlight Mountain Theater. They were showing Fiddler on the Roof, so I had to go check it out.

Fiddler on the Roof is a musical in imperial Russia around 1905. It’s based on a poor Jewish man named Tevye the dairyman with five daughters. He is a milkman in the village of Anatevka who attempts to maintain his Jewish religious and cultural traditions. He has very strong-willed daughters who wish to marry for love and wait instead of taking what they can get. There is so much that goes on in this play to explain it all here but it’s a funny and entertaining story and just makes you feel good. Interesting note, Fiddler on the Roof held the record for the longest running Broadway musical for almost 10 years, until Grease surpassed it.

My friend Idgie and I drove up together to Garden Valley, where the theater was located and found a great restaurant, Two Rivers, for dinner then off to the stage. The weather was perfect and there was a half-moon. The moon hovered behind the stage, right over the mountain, giving us its own luminescent show. I got random seats online, but of course, we ended up with seats 12 and 13.

After the first time I went there, I went back again and again. I purchased a punch card and took friends or family with me to see different plays. I saw The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, Beauty and the Beast, to name a few. One of my best Google finds on my day of hope.

My lesson of hope: No matter what is going on around me I must remember that I benefit so much from taking time to spend doing the things I love to do. One small Google search benefited my soul for many years in the future and a wonderful way to spend time with family and friends.
