Goal: Enjoy a Staycation, feel like a 13-year-old teenager again
Quote: “No matter where you go, no matter the weather, always bring your own sunshine.” – Anthony J. D’Angelo
My friend Frankie and I decided to save some money this year and create a staycation. A staycation is where you stay in your home area on a budget instead of traveling somewhere. We started with breakfast at Jo Mammas in Eagle, Idaho. Jo Mammas is one of the best breakfast restaurants in the area according to my taste buds. Everything I have ever eaten there has been wonderful. We decided to invite her husband and son to join us for breakfast since I was stealing her away for a few days.
Then it was time for just the two of us to head over to Two Rivers Spa for a wonderful facial. Next it was time to head over to my house to hang out for a while and talk and just be girls until it was time to see a movie. We headed to a dollar movie theater and saw The Mountain Between Us.
The Mountain Between Us (Wikipedia). The movie stars Idris Elba and Kate Winslet as a surgeon and a journalist, respectively, who survive a plane crash, with a dog, and are stranded in the High Uinta’s Wilderness in Utah with injuries and harsh weather conditions.
After their flight is canceled due to stormy weather, neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Bass and photojournalist Alex Martin hire a private pilot Walter to get them from Idaho to Denver for connecting flights to Alex's wedding in New York and Ben's emergency surgery appointment in Baltimore. Walter, who has not filed a flight plan, suffers a fatal stroke mid-flight, and the plane crashes on a mountaintop in the Hight Uinta’s Wilderness. Ben, Alex, and Walter's Labrador Retriever survive the crash, but Alex has injured her leg quite badly. Ben attends to her cuts and injured knee and buries the pilot while she is unconscious. What will happen next? Such a good movie about courage, strength, and an unwavering drive to survive.
Then we went to Casa Mexico for Mexican food and margaritas. Since it was our birthday month, they gave us a shot of Tequilla instead of dessert, as we were trying to be healthy. HA! One shot is around 97 calories and if you add lime or lemon, which is natural fruit, it’s better for you than dessert, right?
We went back to my place, changed into our pj's, and settled in for a night of movies. We love those sappy love movies. We put a box of Kleenex, ‘between us’ (no pun intended from the movie) ha. She spent the night, and it was like we were 13-year-old teenagers again laughing and loving life with no cares in the world. I love the time we get to spend together and cherish every moment. She is so special to me and a real true friend. The next day was filled with me making breakfast and just hanging out together. Love her. Another great day and all mid-week, on a Wednesday.
My lesson of hope: Just spending time with good friends and watching feel good movies makes my heat smile and when life throws you a challenge accept it, brace yourself, and move forward. Never give up.
