Goal: Live like a kid for a day
Quote: “If we could all see the world through the eyes of a child, we would see the magic in everything.” - Unknown
Being a kid brings me joy. Today I declared that my day of hope would be, “live like a kid” day. I went to the local Big AL’s event center which has bowling, food, and an arcade. I told them I was looking to rent their facility for work. I ended up doing a bowling event there later, so really, I did not tell a lie. I had them give me a tour of the building and all the things they had to offer. Then I did everything.
I bowled a game, just by myself. I bowled 189, not too bad. I ate macaroni and cheese and had an Oreo milkshake for lunch. You can eat what you want when you are a kid and not worry about carbs and that’s what I did. I spent over an hour in the arcade riding motorcycles, playing Skee Ball, Whack-a-Mole, and other games. I gave the tickets I won to a little boy who was crying because he did not have enough for the toy he wanted. I think my favorite part was the photo booth. I posed for several rounds of pictures and got a couple strips of pictures. It was so fun, and the staff was amazing.
I then drove to a movie theater and watched Epic, a kid movie, and I ate popcorn for dinner, just me, myself, and I. It was a great day.
Bonus Event
What tends to happen with the day of hope is it starts to spread throughout the month as well. This month I did my first color run. It looked fun, so I signed up. The Color Run is a nationwide 5K event. You start out in all white clothing then people throw different colors of paint powder on you while you run. It’s for fun, and not competitive, and I did a light jog. When you get to the end, you are a rainbow of colors. Always wanted to try it so why not. It fit into the kid day theme.
Note to anyone wanting to try this race, take towels in your car to sit on after, and have wet wipes to clean off your hands so the color does not get all over the steering wheel and gear shift. I did not know this tip and had to thoroughly clean my car afterwards. I did that race again the next year as it was so fun, and I was prepared the second time with towels and wipes.
My lesson of hope: When you are a kid you can live by kid rules, not adult rules, and not think about the stress of what to eat, and how to behave. You just need to go have fun and remember not to think so much. Just have fun, even if only for a day.
