Goal: Try something new from your bucket list
Quote: “Stop dreaming about your bucket list and start living it.” – Annette White
This day of hope was a fun filled day with new things. First, I went to the Boise State University (BSU) stadium parking lot to see a vintage car show. I don’t know anything about cars, but it’s cool to see the different varieties, makes, and models. I always like red cars the best, so when they wanted everyone to vote for their favorite, I chose the cherry red convertible car. It won, of course.
Then Idgie and I had a great opportunity, which most people don’t get to do as its off limits. We went out on the BSU blue football field. This field is special, as it is Boise State, but also because the field is blue turf. Yes, the whole field is blue. Fun fact: If you do the tour inside the Hall of Fame at BSU, there is a book about all the stadiums with colored fields. Any school in the country that wants to install an artificial turf field in color other than green must legally have Boise State’s permission. I hear that most are approved if they are not asking for Blue. HA!
They don’t let people on the actual field often, but this day it was open to ticket holders to walk around. I had my friend Idgie take pictures of me at the number 1, and number 3, and I put them together to make a 13. It was so cool to be on the field and see it from the players’ perspective. Also, just to be able to say, “I touched the blue turf,” was an accomplishment. You would think the day was over but no, there’s more.
I had used Google search and typed in what to do on the 13th in Boise, Idaho. My bucket list is huge. I have a large binder with items I have done, and want to do, on my bucket list. One of the items I wanted to try was to see a Ballet. One of the items on the Google search was The Ballet of Idaho. They were performing Swan Lake. I asked Idgie if she wanted to go with me. The ballet was one of her mother’s favorite experiences, so she said yes, and we went to dinner before the show.
Luckily, I had read about the story online or I would have been completely lost. I did not know, when I went, that ballets are music and dancing only. No words at all. There’s Prince Siegfried. He falls in love with a beautiful woman named Odette, who’s trapped in the body of a swan.
She is a fragile and beautiful creature that has been imprisoned as a swan by the evil wizard Von Rothbart. She’s waiting for true love to come to save her. It’s the only thing that can. There is a Black Swan as well. She’s trying to trick the prince to fall in love with her so that he can’t swear his love to Odette.
The music was powerful and moving. It really touches the soul. Personally, I would rather have the words in the future because I would like to know what’s going on in the show. But it was on my bucket list, and I did it. I crossed it off the list. Now I know that I wouldn’t want to do it again in the future. I have friends who love ballet, and that is awesome. It brings them joy, and they should keep going. It’s what brings you joy, not someone else’s joy. If I did go again, it would be for the powerful music.
My lesson of hope: If you don’t try new experiences, you will never know if it brings you joy. Try everything, and when going to a ballet read about the story online before you go, so you know what the story is about.
