Day of Hope #10

Goal: 1-explore scenery, 2-test drive cars, and 3-kick some butt

Quote: “What we see depends mainly on what we look for.” – John Lubbock

This day of hope has three parts:

First, on the agenda for my day of hope, I took a drive to Idaho City, Idaho. I love the mountains and rivers in Idaho. I had heard from others how beautiful it is to drive up there and see the fall colors. Idaho City was on my list of places to visit. This city came in handy down the road, for another great day of hope. It’s about a 40-minute drive to get there from Boise. It’s a small historic town, and the drive is beautiful. I needed some fresh air.

They had one gas station and one, maybe two, restaurants at the time I went, and the rest were all historic buildings on the streets. A little bit of trivia, Idaho City was the largest city in the Northwest about 150 years ago and was bigger than Portland Oregon. It was mostly gold miners. All the store fronts and architecture are the original buildings that have been touched up but are still historic. It takes you to another time. Very relaxing and informative for a day trip and I found some good info to book a future event. They have a natural hot spring with private and public pools, and a small spa, which I will explore on a different day of hope.

Second on the agenda came from my vision board for the year and that is to find a car. After my success with the house in March, I also had put a car on my vision board. I had no idea how this new car purchase would happen, but my goal was to test drive all SUVs, pick my favorite, and get a great deal. I set out several times during the year.

This day I test drove three different vehicles. 2013 Toyota Rav4, Kia Sportage and Chevy Equinox, I liked a few different things about each one, but I have about 10 others to test drive as well.  I plan to test drive 13 before deciding. I took a guy friend with me so he could give me his advice on each one as well. It’s funny, but in my experience when you are a single gal and you go to test drive a car most, (not all), car salesmen try to tell you all kinds of things that are not true or relevant because they think you don’t know anything about cars. I found that when I took a guy with me, it cut down on a lot of the crap and extra sales pitches. Now, when it’s time to purchase my new vehicle, I will be ready.

The third item, since I love sports so much, my son and I watched the Denver Bronco and San Francisco 49ers NFL football game. We are big on NFL games, and we really go back and forth with each other. I am a Bronco fan, and he is a 49ers fan. At the beginning of the game we say good luck, shake hands, then trash each other’s teams. This goes on for about three hours very loudly, I might add. Then we shake again at the end. We are very competitive. We have all the gear with our team logos on it, jerseys, blankets, pants, socks, and toys etc. Denver usually wins so I am typically the one celebrating. I am sure he will have some comments to add once he sees this blog. HA!

My lesson of hope: Slowing down and enjoying nature is very relaxing, test-driving cars not so much, and football will always get my blood pressure up in a good way. All these things are well worth it in the end.
