Goal: ‘Oh, I need to do that someday’

Quote: “Clutter isn’t just the stuff in your closet or drawers, it’s anything that gets between you and the life that you want to be living.” – Peter Walsh

Today was a rare day that I had to work, but I did sneak away to get my nails done by my favorite nail technician at the time, Mr. Jordan. He is such a joy to be around. He has a huge heart, and his energy is infectious. He is always so much fun and does a great job. I got a French Tip which I don’t normally do. I normally get a solid color, but this time I got the traditional French with snowflake stamps on the nails. Then back to work.

One of the things that brings me joy is being organized. I came up with an idea to do an,” Oh, I need to do that someday,” evening. I made a list of things I often look at and say, “Oh, I need to do that someday,” then I never seem to get to them. Well tonight is a different story. I fixed a broken curtain rod that had bugged me for months. I also cleaned out a junk drawer in the kitchen, The drawer where you throw everything in and every time you can’t shut it, you think to yourself, “Oh, I need to clean that someday.” I ended up doing three drawers once I got started.

I cleaned out my purse. Everything gets thrown into women’s purses. You know it’s time to clean out the purse when the passenger airbag light goes on in the car because it thinks someone is sitting on the seat beside you, then the seatbelt alarm starts beeping.

Because it was my day of hope, and despite the work roadblock, I did more in those four hours after work than I would have if I had sat on the couch and vegged out watching a television show. After finishing all that organizing, I turned off all the lights and had a candlelight dinner just for me. My friend Idgie knew I had to work all day, as we worked at the same company, so she made me a 13-bean soup (yes 13 different beans) with ham, and I enjoyed a glass of wine on the side. Day of hope is complete.

My lesson of hope: No matter how much time you find yourself with on your special day, do something instead of nothing. One less thing to worry about is just that. One less thing.
