Day of Hope #62

Tuesday February 13 – Day of Hope #62

Goal: Nourish me & enjoy Beads and Bling

Quote: “The only person who can pull me down is myself, and I am not going to let myself pull me down anymore”. – C. Joybell

I just have to say my day of hope was amazing! I didn’t do anything crazy or death defying; I just spent the day with myself. I love my job, but I go to work every day and it’s, “hey, Kayla, can you do this or do that all day long”. It’s amazing how each day has the same number of hours. Every day when I am at work it goes by so fast, and I feel like sometimes I miss out on 24 hours, but when I spend the same 24 hours of time just on me and it seems like it is three days long.

I got lots of extra sleep. Extra sleep is always good, and on a regular workday is even better. Then I got a massage from my gal pal Patty. I also watched several hours of Marie Forelo’s Marie TV episodes online. She has great ideas on creating a business and life you love, and she gives great everyday advice as well. She is so fun to watch and very inspiring. I love to sit and watch back-to-back episodes of her past shows for hours. Some of the episodes are 10 minutes and others are longer. This is what I do online when I am looking to better my future self, work on my business, feel down, or need inspiration and she gives me the boost to keep going strong.

I then listened to some music and got ready for a wonderful Cajun dinner and girl talk night. It is Mardi Gras which is the French word for Fat Tuesday. It gets its name from the practice of the last night of eating rich, fatty foods that would be forbidden during Lent leading up to the beginning of the feast on Ash Wednesday. I am not an expert on this, but I do love to celebrate with my good pal Idgie who in my opinion is the Mardi Gras queen and enjoys this day every year. She goes all out at work too, and everyone loves it. She is getting ready to retire in May and I know everyone will miss her fabulous cooking and wonderful personality.

We went to Jo’s Crab Shack with our Mardi Gras colors and beads on (you can read about the bead celebration online). The Crab Shack offers a variety of food from sea to shore. You can get buckets of seafood, fried shrimp platters and fish dishes along with mainland items such as steak and chicken. We enjoy the food and the category five hurricane drinks. It was also our pre–Valentine’s Day celebration we try to do each year. It’s so fun. Then for dessert we headed to her house for a delicious Lemon dessert. Best Day Ever Cajun style! Happy Fat Tuesday!

I then headed home to relax and get caught up on my journaling for the past few months. I journaled for a few hours then took a forty-five-minute Epsom salt bath and went to bed.

No one asked me to do anything but me. No deadlines or schedules or calendars to manage for a whole 24 hours. Life is so short and if you don’t take time to slow down and enjoy it then it will surely pass you by.

My lesson of hope:  I will end with what I wrote in my journal that evening: One day, just one day a month, is so healing. I am so grateful for these days. I always get so much done just for me. How did I manage without A Day of Hope all these years. I don’t want to ever find out.

Bonus - Run 4 Love

The Boise Run 4 Love takes place each February around Valentines Day. It’s one of my favorite races because it’s a nice even trail on the Boise Greenbelt. There is endless beautiful scenery all along the Boise River with trees, grass, wildlife, and a view of the mountains.

This year I chose to do the 10K race. It was a beautiful day for a race. I did very well with a combination of running and walking and got my medal for finishing. What a great accomplishment and added another completed race to my list.
